What to expect

Picture
We schedule to meet all our guests in person upon arrival
so that we can show you the grounds, go over cabin details
and answer any questions you may have about the accommodations.
Check-in time is 3:00pm (or after) and check-out is 12noon.

All bed linens are provided, along with an ample supply of bath towels.
We have a modestly equipped kitchen with range, refrigerator, coffee
pot, microwave and a few small appliances for your use. There are two
heat sources provided, propane heat & wood burning stove. We provide
firewood and kindling. A small BBQ grill is available to our guests so be
sure to bring along your charcoal!

Our cabin can accommodate 3-4 adult guests in open floor plan upstairs.
We have a queen sized bed and sleeper sofa. With prior arrangement, we
can often sleep an additional 2-4 persons in the downstairs basement area. There is one small bathroom with tub/shower, sink and toilet so keep that in mind when considering renting.

Finally, spring summer and fall rentals are generally granted upon request. Winter bookings are granted as weather permits. An AWD or 4WD vehicle with ample ground clearance is highly recommended for inclement weather. While the local highway department does maintain the main road leading to the area, our cabin is located off a secondary road with a long driveway. This driveway is private and not maintained for significant snow removal. Also, we do NOT allow any additional hunting leases at this time.

Local history

The Battle of Rich Mountain occurred on July 11, 1861. The grounds surrounding the cabin are mostly owned by the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation. There are numerous walking trails with local history postings along the pathways. Explore the confederate post at Camp Garnett, the actual Battlefield where fighting broke out or view the Hart house monument documenting location of where troops passed by during the Civil War
